Client work

A hotel map to help VVIP’s guests plan their stay.

A familiar holiday question

“How far is our hotel from the strip?” is the sort of thing you want to know before a holiday. The same goes for the venue you’re heading to, or the hotel your friends have booked.

You can look each place up separately, but that means finding the right hotel, searching for the venue and piecing the area together yourself. I’ve built a new interactive map for VVIP Events Zante to make that a bit easier.

Pick your hotel. See the walk.

The idea is straightforward: choose the hotel you’re staying at, then select a popular venue or another hotel. The map shows the route between them, along with the distance and an estimated walking time.

Guests can get a feel for where everything is in Laganas without having to recognise street names or already know the area. There’s also an option to open the journey in Google Maps when they want to take it further.

A quick walkthrough: choose a hotel and destination to see the route, distance and estimated walking time.

Useful before you book, and before you head out

Before booking, it gives guests another way to compare locations. A hotel name and a few photos only tell you so much. Seeing where it sits in relation to the places you want to visit helps you picture the holiday.

Once accommodation is sorted, the questions change. How far away are our friends? Can we walk to tonight’s venue? How much time should we leave? Bringing the hotels and venues together makes those plans easier to work through.

The walking times are estimates, of course, but they give guests a more useful starting point than a pin on its own.

A small tool with a clear job

I like projects like this because the purpose is easy to explain. There’s a specific question, and the website can help somebody answer it there and then.

It also gives VVIP something useful to put alongside its event and hotel information. Guests can explore the area in the same place they’re already planning their trip.

The aim is to help guests feel more familiar with the area before they arrive, with less searching around for the basics.

Got a similar idea?

A useful addition to a website doesn’t always need to be a large project. It might be a map, a calculator, a comparison tool or a small feature that answers a question your customers keep asking.

If you’ve got an idea for a handy little tool like this for your website, get in touch. I’d love to hear it.
