When custom software is usually worth it
Usually when important work still lives in spreadsheets, your team rekeys the same data into several tools, or a standard product keeps forcing awkward workarounds onto a core process.
If the job is mostly a marketing website, a lighter web development project is often the better answer. If the hard part is reservations, availability or operational rules, a focused booking system build can be the clearer route.
Why these projects sometimes drift
The risky part is rarely the code on its own. It is starting with too much scope, copying the wrong process into software, or trying to solve every edge case before the first useful release exists.
